Teesha style page

image

I’m still experimenting with Teesha’s art journal collage style. This page just kept going. However, I like that I combined collage with text. Also, I am really enjoying my lettering.

I love this style and will continue to explore it. There’s something soothing about working these pages.

Mixed media doodle

image

I have to admit that I signed up for this self study class a while back and got sidetracked with the other live classes.

Mika Diaz was a Life Book teacher this year and I enjoyed her lesson. But self study classes mean you’re on your own. You can post your work but you may or may not receive comments.

I  went back to the class because the live classes have been very intense. My brain wanted a change of pace.

This class is all about intentional doodling. It’s a lot of fun and relaxing in the same way Zentangles are. It’s nice to do while sitting on the couch.

This piece is from Lesson 2. The doodles were done with Pitt pens. The background was a page I did a while ago when I made a bunch of background pages. I forgot about them until today when I needed prepped pages to doodle on.

Mika has not mentioned doodling in white. That is what I took away from Mermaid Circus.

Happy doodling!

Just Another Monday

image

After a not so awesome day at work, I came home and wrote out what bugged me. After dinner, I did a bit of work on Life Book Week 44. After doing the star field background, I had an idea for the journal page.

The background was distress stain with Pitt pen journal entry and white acrylic watered down with a drop of Ultramarine blue and Interference Violet. The girl is a color copy from a scan of a favorite from an earlier class and the other images are clip art from Teesha and Mermaid Circus.

The doodles were done with acrylic marker and Pitt Pens. Plus a little alcohol marker in cool grey for shadows.

A little digital enhancement with #aviary for this post > http://avry.co/_getAviary_

I  will set aside for tonight before I decide if it’s done, but I like the way it is turning out.

Radiant Faces Lesson 9 Doodle Girl.

I started  Lesson 5 with Kylie Fowler and just hit the wall with it so I decided to select another lesson. I chose Lesson 9 with Joanne Sharpe – doodle girl.  I felt like it was a bit of a cheat because I have tried something similar. It is one of my favorite pages.

I also wanted a page that I could work on over the weekend. So here is my Doodle Girl.  I’m not sure if I will embellish the text more. At any rate, I have started a mermaid version.

Complicated Answers

This page was initially done made in Tam’s Ultimate World of Whimsy but it wasn’t finished.  Truthfully, I didn’t know how. So it sat for the past several months.

I have learned a lot in Mermaid Circus but the most important thing is the finishing touches that make a page.

I spend my Veterans Day going back to old pages and adding another layer to them. I wanted text for the page and I wanted Mr. Quail and Mr. Kitty to be friends.  I found the Dr. Suess quote that fit.

I finished adding the text and realized that binding it later may be problematic but I can always make another one.

Whimsical Krampus Handmaiden

image

My friend Marva invited me to join her upcoming Krampus themed show at Bedlam Coffee next month.
Most of my pieces are altered digital photos of Marva in her awesome Krampus costume.

I really wanted to include a mixed media art piece. I sketched a few whimsical Krampuses and they were OK. It wasn’t until I got to Lesson 2 of Radiant Faces with Tamara Laporte that I was inspired.

That lesson produced Inner Child and her dark cousin, Krampus Handmaiden. I have to give credit to Jane and Teesha and Mermaid Circus for helping me with finishing touches. I’ve heard the message in many classes, but it clicked in Mermaid Circus.

This piece is 16 inhes by 14 inches cold press watercolor paper. With collage, stencils, acrylics, Neocolor 2’s, Aquamarkers, Promarkers, Pitt pens, Prisma pencils, and Montana markers.

Radiant Faces Lesson 3

image

Lesson 3 of Radiant Faces is with Christy Tomlinson who has what I call a whimsical impressionist style.

I tried working the entire piece with her supplies, but it was trickier than I thought.

My Girly Girl was done with Stabilo pencil, acrylics, Pitt pens, Collage Pauge, alcohol ink, various papers, Stayzon ink, stamps, stencils, and Prisma pencils on 9 x 12 canvas.

I am enjoying the class and it is stretching my skills. I’m not totally in love with her but I like her. I want to try Christy’s techniques again because I like the idea of shading with Pitt pens.

Radiant Faces Lesson 2 Inner Child

image

Lesson 2 of Radiant Faces is with Tamara Laporte. This girl is called Inner Child. I love this Blythey-ness of this style of whimsical character. Yup, another ginger.

As always, I enjoyed Tam’s lesson. I have not yet worked through Effy’s versions of any of the lessons I’ve done so far. I  don’t know why,  but I want to work through each teacher’s lesson and then work through all of Effy’s lessons.

This lesson gave me an idea for a dark whimsy  version for my upcoming Krampus themed show with my friend Marva.

The show will be at the Bedlam Coffee for the month of December.

Life Book Week 43

image

Life Book Week 43 with Christy Tomlinson. by Tenuki Handcrafts on Flickr.

I’m still working on Life Book. I made this page in one of my journals and liked her so much that I decided to make a 9 x 12 version.

The first layer of the page is a journal entry about my art afternoon with Marva, which was a lot of fun as always.
